About Us

Vessel & Essence is the natural next step in our journey. Born out of our award-winning zero-waste business, I Love Zero, this new chapter allows us to bring the same care for the environment into the world of fragrance and home living.

With I Love Zero, we set out to tackle the wasteful culture of single-use plastics and create a space where people could shop sustainably, affordably, and with confidence. Along the way, we discovered just how much our customers valued thoughtful choices, products that respect both people and planet, and a sense of connection to the things they bring into their homes.

It was in our little shop in Pocklington that the seed for Vessel & Essence was planted.
 
When looking for a supplier for fragranced candles we discovered that it was hard to find a company that ticked all our boxes. We were looking for UK based, sustainably packaged candles that were made from plant based waxes and sustainably sourced fragrance oils. So we began experimenting with making our own candles to sell alongside our refill goods.

Customers loved them, so much so that many started bringing back their jars and asking us to refill them. As much as we loved the idea, we quickly realised that our original jars and methods just weren’t designed for easy refills. That got us thinking: what if we created a candle brand that made refilling simple from the very beginning? Then we thought why can't we just make the best refillable candles in the world? We're not naive enough to think we could ever compete on numbers, but we could on quality.

You see over the years we soon learned to identify green washing when it comes to products often assocaited with refill shops. The same "marketing" tricks are used for candles. (Read our article to learn more)

And so, Vessel & Essence was born. Our focus is now on genuine refillable luxury candles. Hopefully our refillable candles will kickstart a genuine trend in consumer behaviour. As a small business we cannot possibly change the tide on the ocean of waste associated with single use candle jars. However by providing a solution that can be adopted by other refillable candle manufacturers who genuinely care about our planet, we hope things can change. To further our cause we invented and patented Magwick™.

Magwick™ vessels are made to be kept and treasured. Rather than wicks being help in place by glue and sticky dots we secure our wicks in place with magentism. Read more here.

Our essences come directly from nature. Together, they embody our belief that luxury doesn’t need to cost the earth, it can be sustainable, ethical, and deeply personal.

As with I Love Zero, we’re still the same family-run team (Paul and Theresa) guided by the same principles of sustainability, honesty, and care. Every decision we make, from the oils we blend to the packaging we choose, reflects our commitment to protecting the planet and creating products with real integrity and quality.

We’re proud of what I Love Zero has achieved and equally excited about this new venture. Vessel & Essence is more than a candle or a fragrance brand, it’s about creating moments of comfort, calm, and connection, while staying true to the values that got us here.
